Ford has recently issued a recall on its F-Series commercial pick-up trucks due to reports of transmission problems that can trigger truck accidents. Issued on May 5, 2014, the Ford truck recall will reportedly affect nearly 4,000 vehicles in the U.S. and specifically will pertain to the transmission systems in the following 2015 model trucks:
-
The Ford F-250 Super Duty truck
- The Ford F-350 Super Duty truck
- The Ford F-450 Super Duty truck
- The Ford F-550 Super Duty truck.
According the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 6R140 transmissions in these vehicles reportedly have software issues that can:
- Cause the trucks to engage in reverse when drivers are shifting from park to drive
- Result in a reverse motion for about 1.5 seconds
- Increase the risk of truck accidents.
The transmission problem was reportedly discovered this past March at a Ford assembly plant in Kentucky. As part of this recent truck recall announcement, Ford officials were quick to point out that this defective transmission has not yet been reported to cause any accidents or injuries.
Actions to Take if You Own a Recalled Ford Truck
If your or your business owns a recalled Ford truck, you can expect to receive an official notice of the recall via the mail in the near future (if you haven’t already received a recall notice). In this notice, Ford has instructed owners to take the recalled vehicles to a specified auto body shop in their area to get their truck fixed for free.
The NHTSA is also encouraging the owners of these trucks to report any issues or incidents they may have experienced due to the transmission problems with these trucks.
